All VoxWare voice compression products are based on a proprietary technology that seems to be quite unique in the compression world: MetaVoice. Instead of compressing the voice samples like all other compression methods, MetaVoice models every detail of them (resonance, pitch, timbre, timing, and character) and reconstructs the speech from this "recipe" at the decoder.

The page about MetaVoice at VoxWare is now gone - VoxWare themselves stopped marketing their voice codecs - but I saved it here. Check out the "compression analogy" link for an interesting analogy.

There are three VoxWare tools available here. ToolVox Player is just that - a VoxWare player. ToolVox Gold is an encoder and decoder of voice streams. TeleVox is an internet telephony application trial that expires after 14 days (but it does not matter, you can not use it since its directory servers have gone offline ages ago).
